STRATEGIC PLANNING OBJECTIVES

Strategic planning initiatives must be customized to the specific goals, objectives, and challenges that your organization is facing at this point in time.

Some clients require a comprehensive strategic plan for the next 3 to 5 years. Others simply want to update an existing plan, or analyze a specific planning element that may require revision (e.g., mission, direction, core competencies, etc.). Many want to focus on a particular strategic issue like an emerging technological/digital trend or a strategic alliance.

It makes no difference if your planning effort is broad and comprehensive or more narrowly focused, it will likely involve two broad objectives:

  1. A clear and compelling vision for the future – The Strategic Ambitions. Whether rethinking the entire long-term strategy or addressing a single emerging and strategic issue, we must ask how any new plan will alter the big picture. Will it accelerate or slow our progress? Will it change our vision, and if so, how? Will this decision touch every aspect of our business, and if so, how?
  2. An outline or “roadmap” for achieving these goals – How we will achieve these goals? Once the objectives are clearly defined, the “how” must be determined. A set of prioritized initiatives are required to focus and guide your organization toward it’s strategic objectives and the accomplishment of its overarching vision.  Remember, you can’t drive across the country without stopping for food and petrol or electricity along the way.
